The Campaign Spot

Your Monday Morning Pep Talk

The news, for Republicans, conservatives, McCain fans, Obama opponents, and PUMAs is gloomy.

So we’re left with the question of that these groups — will anyone be offended if I say “we”? — do about it.

Newsweek’s cover story this week is, “How a President Obama Might Govern a Center-Right Nation.” The discussion on Meet the Press yesterday, after Colin Powell’s endorsement, was not who would win but how big the win would be. Andrea Mitchell suggested that the Powell endorsement will help Obama with retired veterans in Florida, North Carolina, and even South Carolina.

“Even South Carolina.”

They’re expecting something on par with Reagan’s win over Mondale.

At this point, those who wish to see a different outcome need to focus on what counts. Yard signs don’t. It’s not clear that advertising will make much difference at this point; it appears the Obama campaign has bought every available timeslot and space. We’ll have time to investigate Obama’s massive donations from suspicious sources after the election. (Of course, talking about illegal donations to the President/Messiah will violate the New Fairness Doctrine.)

Early voting is going on in many states. Have you voted? Who do you know who is persuadable who can be taken to the polls? Who do you know who is wavering, and what would it take to un-waver them?

Don’t worry if you’re in a deep red state (although in Mitchell’s mind, they don’t exist anymore). Team Obama is looking for a landslide in the popular vote, and Chuck Todd declared yesterday that it was just about no longer possible for McCain to win the popular vote.

Who’s up for proving some people wrong, two weeks from tomorrow?
