Thompson’s Latest Ad, Set at the Extremely Well-Read Diner

In Thompson’s latest ad, the folksiness practically drips off the screen.

The entire segment is Thompson, speaking to the camera from that diner counter. Is he reading a USA Today in the beginning? Or a Des Moines Register? It seems to be a very literate crowd at that diner; I count three separate patrons reading the newspaper, including the mother/grandmother behind Thompson seemingly teaching her daughter/granddaughter to read.
Thompson’s message:

Americans know we have an illegal immigration problem.

And most of us have a good idea about how to start fixing it-secure our borders, and enforce the law.

Giving up, by granting amnesty is not the answer.

It’s unfair to those who have played by the rules and ignores the rule of law.

It’s also a matter of national security.

We can do a lot better than this and with your help we will.

I’m Fred Thompson and I approve this message.

Subtext: Sure, that Huckabee fella seems good on life issues. But he’s a squish on illegal immigration.
