Texas Politics Will Keep Its Court Jester

In news that was more surprising back in 2006, comedian/musician Kinky Friedman is considering running for governor of Texas again.

In 2006, Friedman received 546,869 votes, or 12.4 percent of the vote, in the gubernatorial race. Four years later, Friedman ran for Texas Agriculture Commissioner, and won 283,614 votes in the Democratic primary, losing to Hank Gilbert.

Despite his efforts against Rick Perry those years, he endorsed Perry in the 2012 Republican presidential primary:

I have been quoted as saying that when I die, I am to be cremated, and the ashes are to be thrown in Rick Perry’s hair. Yet, simply put, Rick Perry and I are incapable of resisting each other’s charm. He is not only a good sport, he is a good, kindhearted man, and he once sat in on drums with ZZ Top. A guy like that can’t be all bad.
