The Campaign Spot

Interesting Video from the Republican Governors Association, Part One

Somehow, I get the feeling somebody in Virginia was waiting for just the right moment to have this video drop:

It features Creigh Deeds, speaking at a campaign stop in Lexington on April 4, saying, “Last year the Fredericksburg paper ran an editorial about the big spenders in Richmond. In Richmond we don’t have earmarks, we have budget amendments, and I had the most budget amendments.”

The lighting and camera angle suggest that Deeds’s campaign stop was on the set of a horror movie, perhaps one that was lit by the guys who do David Fincher’s films.

Much of that spending would have gone to teachers’ salaries, and as the Deeds Campaign Media Team Washington Post notes, if Deeds is saying this at a campaign event, this isn’t really a scandalous confession, or wasn’t intended as such. Having said that, you have to wonder if this is really the right state and right environment for a candidate who brags about how much money he spent in the state legislature.
