The Campaign Spot

I’ll Take ‘Blog Posts I Never Thought I Would Write’ for 500, Alex

I want to like Meghan McCain. Or at the very least, I want to be open to liking her, and I don’t want to judge her based on her father; she’s her own woman.

But that task gets harder when she writes:

To be honest, I find Karl Rove’s Tweets boring. Sometimes he takes questions; other times he talks about his appearances on cable news and other shows. But he doesn’t say anything substantive.

It’s Twitter. Messages are limited to 140 characters. “Substantive” isn’t really the strength of the medium.

And then, the very same day she criticizes the lack of substance in Rove’s tweets, I read on her feed — yes, I’m among those who follow her Twitter feed, and wonder if this post will get me blocked — “I just stocked up on a bunch of false eyelashes. Girls, if your not using, you have to try them. AMAZING, love Mac’s and Shu Umera’s!!”

Look, I’m sure there are a lot of areas to fairly criticize Rove. But frankly, I think if he doesn’t want to get into something as substantive as what kind of false eyelashes he prefers, that’s his business.
