Governor Who Broke Tax Pledge Insists He Really Means It This Time

New Jersey governor Jon Corzine, the man who broke a hell of a lot of promises about not raising taxes over the past four years, conducted an interview with the New York Times a few days ago that indicated he felt extremely confident about his reelection chances, or perhaps he momentarily forgot that he was running for reelection.

Corzine told the Times he “may revisit his plan to lease the New Jersey Turnpike to raise cash — a proposal that he abandoned last year in the face of intense opposition from lawmakers and voters.”

Now he and his campaign are issuing a statementthat in his second term, Corzine would never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever raise tolls. Ever. Ever, ever, ever.

Trust him.
