I’d think Campaign Spot readers would be trained to expect this by now, but liveblogging of tonight’s Republican debate starts at 9 p.m. eastern. Then I’ll shift over to Fred on the Tonight Show, although NBC may make a transcript available immediately after the taping, so that may be posted earlier.
I made this prediction on Captain Ed’s show yesterday – I’ll bet that in the past twenty-four hours, every candidate (or one of their speechwriters/communications guys) has come up with a joke at Fred Thompson’s expense. I expect we’ll hear one early. I expect we may hear a second one. But I would just say to the candidates, you don’t want to be the one with the sixth or seventh Fred Thompson joke. Don’t be “that guy.”
May I recommend to the candidate who gets the first question, responding by looking left and right, and asking, “Where’s Fred? You would think he would be here. Should we wait a few minutes and see if he’s just running late?”
