So the North American Electric Reliability Corp has just issued a report (PDF) affirming what I wrote in d Power Grab (see especially chapter 10, “Lights Out; Our Dim Bulbs Guarantee Blackouts”).
That is, through sins of omission and very deliberate commission, the reliability of the nation’s power supply is in doubt.
The question is whether our political class is able to reverse course before the lights do go out for sustained periods — though I suspect that sustained brownouts may be the only thing to stir them (and judges, and the public) out of this sleepwalk to disaster.
