Kevin Costner’s oil-cleanup machine works:
Kevin Costner’s 15-year odyssey and an investment of $20 million, promoting his oil-separating centrifuge machines, has finally paid off. With BP unprepared to handle the catastrophic Gulf oil disaster, Costner came to the rescue with his centrifuges. And the beleaguered oil company was so impressed after putting the machines through a test run that it ordered 32, to help with cleanup efforts on the Gulf Coast.
With millions of gallons of oil spewing into the Gulf of Mexico, the centrifuges are capable of processing 128,000 barrels of water a day. Costner and BP CEO Doug Suttles recently held a press conference touting their partnership.
“We tested it in some of the toughest environments we could find, and actually what it’s done — it’s quite robust,” Suttles said. “This is real technology with real science behind it, and it’s passed all of those tests.” He added that Costner’s device has proved effective at processing 128,000 barrels of water a day, which “can make a real difference to our spill response efforts.”
Costner is pleased that the oil industry has finally shown an interest in investing in cleanup technology.
