The Year of the Nerd Athlete

The Ivy League isn’t known as a powerhouse athletic conference. But this year, strange things are happening. Cornell received a lot of attention for advancing to the “Sweet Sixteen” in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament. Yale won its first NCAA playoff game since 1952 — but it was in hockey, so you didn’t hear about it. Yale was one game away from reaching the “Frozen Four” — the hockey equivalent of basketball’s “Final Four” — when the hopes and dreams of nerd-athletes the world over were dashed last night by Boston College.

So what’s next? Can we expect to see Princeton’s football team in the Rose Bowl?
