Take That, Teacher Educators!

A new report, “State Teacher Policy Yearbook 2007” (from the National Council on Teacher Quality), concludes that in most states, teachers, unlike members of many other professions, are not obliged to receive annual performance reviews.

In addition, states are failing to hold education schools accountable on such measures as the quality of their graduates. (Paul Basken, The Chronicle of Higher Education, “Report Faults States’ Oversight of Teacher Education and Questions Accreditation as a Gauge of Quality,” June 28, 2007)
