When you encounter politicians and education-establishment types saying that we need to put more young people through college, keep in mind that this means luring more students with weak academic backgrounds and minimal interest in formal education into lower-tier schools. Will that really do much for them by augmenting their “human capital” — or will it mostly be a waste of taxpayer dollars?
