Re: Play Ball

John Miller notes that this year marks the sesquicentennial of the first college baseball game. That Little Three matchup in Pittsfield between Williams and Amherst was played according to the Massachusetts Rules.
The first game played according to the New York, or Knickerbocker Rules (the forerunner of today’s game) was also in 1859 — and played in the Bronx, between St. John’s College (now Fordham) and St. Francis Xavier College (now forgotten).
