Not Quite Walking Into the Lions’ Den, But . . .

In today’s Pope Center piece, Jay Schalin writes about his address to the University of North Carolina’s Faculty Assembly. He spoke of some unpleasant truths that many in the higher-education establishment would prefer to ignore, such as the decline in academic standards and falling effort among many college students — there’s a chicken-and-egg problem for you — and the disconnect between the values displayed in the academy and the values of many Americans who help pay for it.
