Inside Higher Ed has a story on how a threatened gender-equity suit led the commissioner of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference to schedule men’s games first this season whenever there will be a doubleheader of men’s and women’s games. The problem, in the eyes of egalitarians pressing the complaint, was that the common practice of putting the women first made it seem as though that game was just a warm-up for the real thing — the men. The Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights took that as a serious issue.
