A student visiting a campus may be especially entranced, as the Chicago Trib observes, by “how many attractive members of the opposite sex he or she encounters” during the visit. Or even “whether the tour guide is wearing pearls or not. (This has happened!)”
Parents have a different perspective. They want to know about campus security, cost, and what value their children get for the money?
Unfortunately, the most popular college rankings don’t adequately address the grownups’ concerns. What’s needed is an honest and widely publicized ranking of the rankings — and new, honest ones.
