Barnard: Deny El-Haj Tenure

Today Front Page Magazine published my article on the El-Haj tenure decision at Barnard, which is said to be imminent. What’s at issue here is this professor’s “faulty, misleading and dangerous” archaeological scholarship on the origins of Israel, as University of Arizona Professor William Dever writes. El-Haj is also accused of slandering an esteemed archaeologist in order to advance her political agenda. On the face of the evidence, Barnard’s outgoing president, Judith Shapiro, and the tenure committee reviewing El-Haj’s bid should deny her tenure, thus setting an example for other campus leaders to similarly demonstrate their commitment to the preservation and transmission of evidence-based scholarship.
