The recent Brookings Institution book Closed Minds? purports to answer that question. I think the authors are mistaken in concluding that efforts by professors to indoctrinate students with leftist notions about the world is a minimal problem, but I applaud them for saying that our colleges and universities spend far too little time in teaching students about our civic institutions.
