Another New Field

The proclivity for American higher education to turn anything that causes anyone trouble into an academic field has, inevitably, now given rise to “fat studies.” Not kidding. You can read about it here.
Quoting from The Chronicle’s article, “The field takes it cues from queer studies and disability studies — subjects pursued primarily by activists who feel they have been discriminated against because of their identity. Scholars held the first academic meeting on fat studies two years ago, and the first fat-studies reader is in the works.”
Only in America.
