‘We Are Going to Subpoena the Family’: House Oversight Chairman Wants Bidens to Appear Before Committee

Just two days after the House Oversight Committee publicized newly obtained banking documents showing the president’s family made millions from Russian and Ukrainian oligarchs while Joe Biden was vice president, chairman James Comer (R., Ky.) announced his plans to subpoena family members.

“This is always going to end with the Bidens coming in front of the committee. We are going to subpoena the family,” Comer stated during an appearance on Fox New Business on Thursday. “Obviously, with all the opposition and obstruction we’re getting from the Biden attorneys now, we know that this is going to end up in court when we subpoena the Bidens. So we’re putting together a case, and I think we’ve done that very well.”

Taking into account the revised figures, the committee now believes it has identified more than $20 million in payments from foreign sources to the Biden family and their close business associates.

On Wednesday, Comer released a statement detailing Hunter Biden business associate Devon Archer’s closed-door testimony before the committee. “During Joe Biden’s vice presidency, Hunter Biden sold him as ‘the brand’ to reap millions from oligarchs in Kazakhstan, Russia, and Ukraine,” the Kentucky representative said in a statement released at the time.

“It appears no real services were provided other than access to the Biden network, including Joe Biden himself. And Hunter Biden seems to have delivered. This is made clear by meals at Café Milano where then-Vice President Joe Biden dined with oligarchs from around the world who had sent money to his son.”

“It’s clear Joe Biden knew about his son’s business dealings and allowed himself to be ‘the brand’ sold to enrich the Biden family while he was Vice President of the United States,” the chairman added.

In late July, Hunter Biden’s former business partner, Devon Archer, testified that then-Vice President Biden was on speakerphone for roughly 20 calls with Hunter’s foreign business associates. Archer’s perspective has been invaluable to the committee, Comer added. While the chairman was previously hesitant to subpoena Biden family members, today his request “would stand up in any court of law in America,” he told Fox.

The Kentucky representative reaffirmed his desire in a discussion later Thursday with Fox anchor Sean Hannity. “They [the family] didn’t do anything. They used Joe Biden and what we’re seeing is Joe Biden actually provided things of value in return for that money. Look at Ukriane. It’s becoming crystal clear that he went and fired the prosecutor that was investigating his son’s corrupt energy company over there.”

The White House has condemned Comer’s of spreading “innuendo and lies.”

“Comer and his fellow extreme Republicans in Congress are now admitting they haven’t uncovered any proof of involvement or wrongdoing by President Biden,” spokesman Ian Sams told the press in an official statement. “They simply will continue to spread innuendo and lies as they pursue a baseless impeachment stunt to attack the President.”
