Former president Donald Trump slammed Dick Cheney on Friday after the former vice president endorsed Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris.
“Dick Cheney is an irrelevant RINO, along with his daughter, who lost by the largest margin in the History of Congressional Races!” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social, also criticizing former Representative Liz Cheney (R., Wyo.), who was ousted from Congress in 2022 by a Trump-backed challenger.The former congresswoman has also come out in support of Harris.
Dick Cheney announced earlier on Friday that he would support Harris: “As citizens, we each have a duty to put country above partisanship to defend our Constitution. That is why I will be casting my vote for Vice President Kamala Harris.”
Meanwhile, the younger Cheney, who has emerged as a staunch Trump critic in the wake of the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot, announced her decision earlier this week. “As a conservative, as someone who believes in and cares about the Constitution, I have thought deeply about this, and because of the danger that Donald Trump poses, not only am I not voting for Donald Trump but I will be voting for Kamala Harris.”
Trump ranted against both Republicans on Truth Social late Friday evening.
“They couldn’t get Scooter Libby, who did so much for them (but was so unfairly treated!), PARDONED. I did it!” Trump said, referring to Dick Cheney’s former adviser, Lewis “Scooter” Libby, who was convicted in 2007 in an investigation concerning the leak of a CIA officer’s identity. Trump later pardoned Libby, who had been sentenced to 30 months in prison.
The former president went on to criticize Cheney as the “King of Endless, Nonsensical Wars, wasting Lives and Trillions of Dollars, just like Comrade Kamala Harris.”
“I am the Peace President, and only I will stop World War III!” he added.
He went on to claim Liz Cheney served on a committee of “Political Losers,” referring to her role on the House select committee that investigated the Capitol riot.
“She and her Unselects deleted and destroyed all evidence and information – IT’S GONE. Must of it proved that [former Speaker] Nancy Pelosi was responsible for J6 – DIDN’T PROVIDE SECURITY,” he claimed, adding that members of the committee “should be prosecuted for what they did.”
