House Speaker Mike Johnson on Saturday criticized the opening ceremonies of the Olympics for featuring a drag queen parody of Leonardo da Vinci’s rendition of the Last Supper.

“Last night’s mockery of the Last Supper was shocking and insulting to Christian people around the world who watched the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games,” Johnson wrote in a post on X.

“The war on our faith and traditional values knows no bounds today. But we know that truth and virtue will always prevail,” he added.

Johnson went on to quote John 1:5 of the Bible: “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”

The parody act featured 18 drag performers — some of whom were half-naked — recreating the scene of the Last Supper, a depiction of Jesus Christ’s final meal with his disciples before his crucifixion.

The burlesque performance was an “interpretation of the Greek God [of wine and festivity] Dionysus” to make viewers “aware of the absurdity of violence between human beings,” the Olympics said on X.

Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker called the visual “crazy” on Instagram, and quoted Galatians 6:7: “Be not deceived, God is not mocked.” European Parliament member Marion Maréchal said on X, “To all the Christians of the world who are watching the #Paris2024 ceremony and felt insulted by this drag queen parody of the Last Supper, know that it is not France that is speaking but a left-wing minority ready for any provocation. #notinmyname.”

Athlete Riley Gaines wrote in her own post on social-media: “Men in wigs front & center at the Olympic Games. No one ever tell me this group is ‘oppressed’ or ‘marginalized’ again.”

Meanwhile, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R., Ga.) accused the Olympic Committee of having videos of the performance taken off of social-media to silence criticism.

“The French Olympic Committee has been hard at work taking down videos of their satanic, trans, and occult opening ceremonies claiming copyright laws. It’s our first amendment right to share these videos and our outright outrage over the anti-Christian Olympic opening ceremonies,” she wrote in a post X.

Meanwhile, First Lady Jill Biden, who led the U.S. delegation to the Olympics, called the opening ceremony “spectacular.”

“The rain did not dampen our spirits…. Every step of the way, I was thinking to myself, oh my god, oh my god. How are we going to top this?” she said, as the U.S. is set to host the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.

“So, ok. Paris has the Eiffel Tower, but we have Hollywood and the magic of Hollywood that makes all dreams come true. I think we’re going to be ok.… It’s a city where new generations of dreamers shape our culture,” she added.

“At the end of the 2028 Games, Olympians and fans will see themselves reflected in Los Angeles,” Biden said.
