Kamala Harris Releases Detailed Medical Report, Looking to Pressure Trump to do the Same

Vice President Harris released a detailed letter from her physician on Saturday that said she is in “excellent health” and offered voters a look into her medical history, a subtle challenge to 78-year-old former president Donald Trump to release his own medical records.

The report was written by Joshua R. Simmons, the physician to the vice president who has treated Harris for the last three and a half years.

“She possesses the physical and mental resilience required to successfully execute the duties of the presidency, to include those as Chief Executive, Head of State and Commander in Chief,” Simmons wrote.

He described her as a “healthy 59-year-old female who has a medical history notable for seasonal allergies” and hives.

The letter released Saturday is based on Harris’s most recent physical exam in April 2024. The physician described the exam as “unremarkable” and said scans and routine bloodwork taken during the physical were also “unremarkable.”

Simmons said Harris’s allergy symptoms had been well-managed by over the counter and prescription medications, including Allegra and eye drops. She has received allergen immunotherapy for the past three years, a process that has “dramatically” improved her allergy symptoms and has reduced her need for medication to manage her symptoms.

The letter also explains that Harris has a mild case of nearsightedness and wears contact lenses.

Simmons also detailed Harris’s maternal family history of colon cancer.

Harris has not had surgery since she was three years old, when she had a laparotomy with an incidental appendectomy for intussusception, according to the report.

The physician said Harris is active and performs “vigorous daily aerobic exercise and core strength training,” and eats a “very healthy diet.” Harris does not use tobacco products and drinks only occasionally and in moderation, the letter says.

A senior Harris aide told ABC News they see the release of the vice president’s medical details as an “opening to highlight how little is known about the health of 78-year-old Trump.”

Trump declined to release his medical records when he first ran for president in 2016. In 2018, the Trump White House released a report from his physician following a physical exam. The report said Trump had high cholesterol, was overweight and had rosacea.

Trump said in August that he would “very gladly” release his medical records to the public, but has not yet done so.
