On the anniversary of Hamas’s mass civilian slaughter, Vice President Kamala Harris spent some of her time at a glamorous photoshoot for an adoring Vogue profile.

Vogue published its Harris profile on Friday, featuring a photo taken by Annie Leibovitz at the Naval Observatory on October 7, one year after Hamas terrorists killed over 1,200 Israeli civilians and took dozens more hostage.

A picture of Harris wearing her own brown suit and a purple blouse while leaning on a chair in front of a red wall appears on the cover of the magazine’s October digital issue. Harris appears relaxed in the photo and is looking directly at the camera. The gushing Vogue cover labels Harris the “candidate for our times” and marks the second time she has graced the cover of the lifestyle magazine.

Vogue’s Harris features comes months after the publication featured first lady Jill Biden on its cover following President Joe Biden’s disastrous debate performance in June and the subsequent collapse of his political future.

When asked about Israel, Harris told Vogue that she supports “incentives” for de-escalation in the Middle East and reiterated her support for a two-state solution to resolve the Israel-Palestine question.

Harris, with husband Doug Emhoff, who is Jewish, planted a pomegranate tree outside their residence to commemorate the October 7 massacre.

“What is asked of us: We must work to ensure nothing like the horrors of October 7 can ever happen again.  And on this solemn day, I will restate my pledge to always ensure that Israel has what it needs to defend itself and that I will always work to ensure the safety and security of the Jewish people here and around the world,” Harris said.

She also called for the remaining hostages in Hamas captivity to be freed. Some of the roughly 250 hostages have been rescued by Israel or exchanged in diplomatic breakthroughs. But 101 hostages are believed to be in Hamas captivity and it is unclear how many are alive or dead.

American citizens were also among those Hamas fighters killed and took hostage. Hamas is still holding seven American hostages and the terror group killed at least 43 Americans on or after October 7. Following October 7, Israel began its war against Hamas in Gaza, a military campaign the Democratic Party’s progressive wing has strongly opposed over Israel’s treatment of Palestinians.

Left-wing activists have frequently taken to college campuses and city streets to protest U.S. support for Israel’s war. In many instances, those demonstrations have been accompanied by antisemitic activity and support for the eradication of Israel, in line with Hamas’s objective.

Harris often calls for a cease-fire agreement to halt the fighting in Gaza and has signaled openness to the concerns held by the progressive activists. She routinely criticizes Israel over the civilian death toll in Gaza and opposed Israel’s offensive in Rafah, a southern part of Gaza thought to be a Hamas stronghold.

But, her overtures were not enough for the anti-Israel “uncommitted” movement, which declined to endorse Harris’s presidential campaign because she is not in favor of halting U.S. weapons shipments to Israel.

Democrats are worried that a small pocket of anti-Israel Muslim voters in Michigan will withhold their votes because of the Biden administration’s support for Israel’s war against Hamas and self-defense from Iranian missile attacks. Last week, Harris met with arab and Muslim leaders in Michigan as her campaign courts Muslim voters in the weeks leading up to the election.
