J.D. Vance, former president Donald Trump’s running mate, will sit down for an interview with Joe Rogan on Wednesday after the podcast host rejected a potential interview with Vice President Kamala Harris due to her campaign’s demands.
The Harris campaign insisted that the podcaster travel to her and limit the interview to one hour. After the news of Harris’s terms broke, the Trump campaign jumped on the opportunity to get Vance on the podcast and agreed to have the episode taped at Rogan’s studio in Austin. A Vance spokesperson confirmed the episode will be taped on Wednesday. It will be released later this week.
Vance’s agreement to the interview comes days after Rogan sat down with Trump for a three-hour conversation that has garnered over 37 million YouTube views since Friday. As the video got more popular, however, it became increasingly harder to find.
Fans complained the interview wasn’t one of the top search results on YouTube, leading to accusations of censorship on Google’s part. Instead, news coverage of the interview popped up for users.
Rogan posted the full podcast episode with Trump on X, saying “there’s an issue with searching for this episode on YouTube.” He then explained his dispute with the Harris campaign in a follow-up post.
“Also, for the record the Harris campaign has not passed on doing the podcast,” Rogan posted early Tuesday. “They offered a date for Tuesday, but I would have had to travel to her and they only wanted to do an hour. I strongly feel the best way to do it is in the studio in Austin. My sincere wish is to just have a nice conversation and get to know her as a human being. I really hope we can make it happen.”
Rogan has been in talks with the Harris campaign since earlier this month, but only the Trump campaign has followed through on committing to a pre-election interview for each candidate on the GOP presidential ticket. It remains unlikely Harris will agree to Rogan’s conditions, given her busy campaign schedule in the week leading up to the presidential election.
“We talked with Rogan and his team about the podcast,” Harris campaign spokesman Ian Sams said last week. “Unfortunately it isn’t going to work out right now because of the scheduling of this . . . period of the campaign.”
During Friday’s sit-down, Trump and Rogan talked about the possibility of Harris appearing on the podcast. While Trump joked that Harris would “be laying on the floor comatose” and calling in medics if she does, Rogan appeared more earnest in his hopes for a good-faith conversation with the Democratic nominee.
“I will talk to her like a human being. I would try to have a conversation with her,” Rogan told Trump. “I think we’d have a fine conversation. I think I’d be able to talk to her. I wouldn’t try to interview her. I’d just try to have a conversation with her and hopefully get to know her as a human being. That was my goal. Having her on, trying to get her to express herself.”
The Joe Rogan Experience is the most popular podcast on Spotify, where he boasts more than 14 million followers. His YouTube channel has more than 18 million subscribers and regularly racks up millions of views on his videos.
