The illegal migrant charged with murdering Georgia nursing student Laken Riley is being accused of brutally beating her and disfiguring her body.

Jose Antonio Ibarra, a Venezuelan migrant who entered the country illegally in 2022, was charged with aggravated battery for severely damaging Riley’s skull.

The illegal immigrant is facing numerous murder and assault charges for killing Riley and leaving her body on the University of Georgia’s campus in Athens. The new charging documents, first reported by Fox News, accuse Ibarra of “seriously disfiguring her body” and “disfiguring her skull.”

He allegedly caused “great bodily harm with an object” and prevented Riley from calling 911 when he kidnapped her during a jog on Georgia’s campus. The affidavits do not disclose the object Ibarra used to carry out the murder and how exactly Riley was killed. Her initial cause of death was deemed blunt force trauma.

After he killed Riley, Ibarra allegedly brought her body to a secluded area. It does not appear Ibarra and Riley knew each other prior to the gruesome murder. He carried out the murder between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Immigration and Customers Enforcement confirmed Sunday Ibarra was encountered in September 2022 and paroled after crossing the southern border near El Paso, Texas. The New York City Police Department arrested Ibarra in September 2023 for acting in a manner to injure a child and subsequently released before immigration officials could send local police a request for him to stay in custody.

Georgia State Representative Houston Gaines (R) said on X Monday there was an outstanding arrest warrant for Ibarra because he did not appear in court following a citation for shoplifting at a Walmart in October.

News outlets have hesitated to focus on Ibarra’s status as an illegal migrant and blamed Republicans for using Riley’s death to criticize the Biden administration’s handling of record migrant flows over the border.

“The blood of Laken Riley is on the hands of Joe Biden, Alejandro Mayorkas, and the government of Athens-Clarke County. The Venezuelan suspect in Laken Riley’s murder is one of millions of illegal aliens that the Biden administration has released into this country to be welcomed with open arms by Democrat-run sanctuary jurisdictions,” said Representative Mike Collins (R., GA) whose district encompasses the Athens area.

The White House responded to Riley’s death by offering condolences and referring to ICE and state law enforcement. She was memorialized at a campus vigil on Monday and her funeral is scheduled to take place on Friday.
