Hunter Biden quietly dropped his defamation and “revenge porn” lawsuit against Fox News hours after his father announced he will not be seeking reelection, shaking up the Democratic party and the 2024 presidential contest.

Three weeks ago, Hunter Biden filed the high-profile lawsuit against Fox News for a fictional series the network ran depicting him on trial for criminal charges related to his foreign business dealings. During the show, Fox News broadcasted lewd pictures from Biden’s abandoned laptop archive, and the lawsuit claimed that it caused him irreparable emotional distress. Fox News removed the streaming program in April after Biden’s attorneys warned of the upcoming lawsuit.

“This entirely politically motivated lawsuit is devoid of merit. The core complaint stems from a 2022 streaming program that Mr. Biden did not complain about until sending a letter in late April 2024,” Fox News said in a statement at the time the lawsuit was filed.

“The program was removed within days of the letter, in an abundance of caution, but Hunter Biden is a public figure who has been the subject of multiple investigations and is now a convicted felon. Consistent with the First Amendment, FOX News has accurately covered the newsworthy events of Mr. Biden’s own making, and we look forward to vindicating our rights in court.”

Hunter Biden became a convicted felon last month when a Delaware jury found him guilty of three federal gun charges for lying about his drug usage on gun paperwork and possessing a firearm while addicted to crack cocaine almost six years ago.

His legal troubles are not ever yet, with his criminal tax-evasion trial set to begin in roughly six weeks for allegedly failing to pay more than $1.4 million of taxes over a four year period. Hunter Biden has pleaded not guilty to the tax charges.

In the meantime, Hunter’s attorneys are seeking to have all the charges against him dismissed based on the ruling in the Trump-classified documents case deeming special counsel Jack Smith to be unconstitutionally appointed. Special counsel David Weiss’s team successfully secured the gun conviction against Hunter Biden and continues to pursue the tax charges against him.

Now that Joe Biden is not seeking reelection, it is unclear whether he will pardon his son or commute his sentence. After Hunter’s conviction, Joe Biden said he would not do either, but that was before he decided not to run for another term following his disastrous debate performance.

As Joe Biden fought unsuccessfully against his party’s push to step aside, Hunter reportedly took on an elevated role as the president’s inner circle shrank.

Joe Biden, 81, announced Sunday he will be dropping out of the presidential race after weeks of intra-party conflict over whether he should remain the Democratic nominee despite his clear mental decline. He quickly endorsed his running mate, Vice President Kamala Harris, the clear frontrunner to receive the Democratic nomination next month at the party’s convention.

“That unconditional love has been his North Star as a President, and as a parent. He is unique in public life today, in that there is no distance between Joe Biden the man and Joe Biden the public servant of the last 54 years,” Hunter Biden said in a statement celebrating his father’s legacy.

“I’m so lucky every night I get to tell him I love him, and to thank him. I ask all Americans to join me tonight in doing the same.”
