U.S. Journalist Locked Up in Iran

Roxanna Saberi has been sentenced to eight years in prison on trumped-up espionage charges. The suave diplomats in the Obama administration have made the usual noises about being disappointed, and those noises have had precisely the effect that one might expect: none.

So for those keeping the check-list: hectoring Americans about conservation, a clumsily handled economic crisis, groveling abroad, and now an Iranian hostage situation — welcome back, Carter.
