Wise correspondents point out that NY Times Washington bureau chief Dean Baquet was the LA Times managing editor who sprang the groping allegation on Arnold Schwarzenegger on the even of the gubernatorial election and note that Jim Rutenberg, whose byline appears on the McCain affair story, came to the Times from that Olympian perch of journalistic sobriety known as Page Six of the New York Post.
Says Bacquet of the groping story: “That’s one of the proudest moments for me as managing editor of the paper. It was a hell of a story. It was a great story.”
