With all of the fuss about transgender issues these days–and support–I have been warning that the next stage in radical self-recreationism will be to allow people suffering from the terrible mental illness, body integrity identity disorder (BIID), to have healthy limbs amputated or spinal cords severed to allow an able-bodied sufferer to become the disabled person they know themselves to be.
Such radical policy changes are always preceded by word engineering. Now–bootstrapping off the popularity of transgender issues–BIID is morphing into “transabled.” From the National Post story:
“We define transability as the desire or the need for a person identified as able-bodied by other people to transform his or her body to obtain a physical impairment,” says Alexandre Baril, a Quebec born academic who will present on “transability” at this week’s Congress of the Social Sciences and Humanities at the University of Ottawa.
“The person could want to become deaf, blind, amputee, paraplegic. It’s a really, really strong desire.”
But Wesley, doctors would never cut off a healthy limb! Besides, society would never allow it.
Really? Self-definition is becoming a fundamental right to which all must acquiesce and the medical arts must be applied to effectuate.
It’s already being proposed. And look how easily the media slipped into the term transabled. It is only a matter of time.
