Euthanasia for Gang Rape?

Those who believe in euthanasia accept the noxious premise that killing is an acceptable answer for human suffering.

That being true, it can’t be about terminal illness–and in most places where it is allowed, it isn’t. That’s why I don’t see how euthanasia advocates could oppose a request by a rape victim to be killed due to her extreme anguish over being gang raped. From the The Times of India story:

The survivor, mother of two daughters, in June submitted a plea before the vice-chairperson of the panel Suman Dahiya, seeking permission for euthanasia. She alleged that a gang of five had gang raped her in May and some police officials of Gurgaon were putting pressure on her to strike a deal with the culprits.

Before any reader assume, “That would never happen:” In Belgium a psychiatric patient was euthanized by a second psychiatrist after her first doctor sexually predated her and wasn’t punished.

This poor woman needs to be taken seriously. Her request for killing shows profound desperation–often true of those who are killed to end suffering.

Euthanasia victimizes, alas, sometimes as a “cure” for victimization.
