Public Option Goes Down

The Senate Finance Committee has just rejected the Rockefeller amendment in favor of a public option by a 15-8 margin. All the Republicans voted no, and they were joined by Baucus, Conrad, Lincoln, Nelson, and Carper. Nancy Pelosi may still try to overcome blue dog objections to the public option in the House, but I think this makes it pretty clear that proponents lack the votes in the Senate.
