Actually, I think the answer is easy — because they think it helps promote their view that government must step in to bring about “equity” everywhere. That helps push the country toward omnipotent government.
Here’s a new example. The Government Accountability Office (GAO) has released a study finding that black girls are disciplined for behavior infractions in school at a significantly higher rate than white girls. Hans Bader puts this under the microscope in this Liberty Unyielding post.
Bader writes:
The Government Accountability Office recently released a report on school discipline. It made non-racist school officials look racist by trumpeting the fact that black girls are disciplined at higher rates than white girls, without mentioning the fact that black kids misbehave at higher rates — a fact made clear both by kids themselves in surveys, and by researchers who take into account kids’ disciplinary records.
So, a tiny bit of research would have undermined the premise of this “study,” but why do that and pass up a chance at flaming racial antagonism?
By the way, why is this any business of the GAO?
