What’s Trump’s Case against Harris?

The circumstances of her getting the nomination made it even more urgent than it usually is in a presidential race for Trump to “define” Kamala Harris — to come up with an attack and make it stick. My Washington Post column argues that he has made no progress on that task.

Donald Trump made many attacks on Vice President Kamala Harris during their debate. Too many for his own good. The problem for the former president’s campaign isn’t that he was harshly negative and said some things that aren’t true: Everyone expected that, and he long ago paid the full penalty for it in public opinion. It’s that he hasn’t distilled his attacks into anything effective.

Nate Silver remarks today, “If he were running a perfect campaign, he’d be a clear favorite.” If he loses, one reason will be his neglect of one of the basic tasks of a campaign.
