What’s Forgivable?

Further to the Northam question, it’s a pretty stark contrast that Beto O’Rourke drove flagrantly drunk as a young man and could have killed someone, yet is a hero to the Left, and Ralph Northam may have appeared in an offensive image and has been cast into the outer darkness. How does this make any sense? How is what Northam did worse than O’Rourke, when O’Rourke’s lapse was a crime that may have gravely and irreparably harmed other people? Absent any evidence that Northam was a racist at the time, it’s fair to assume that Northam’s offense was a function of poor taste, but for the outrage police that is worse than reckless conduct literally endangering other people.
