Bruce Springsteen played the opening weekend of New Orleans’ Jazz & Heritage Festival, taking predictable blasts at the Bush administration as he played songs from his new album of Pete Seeger folk songs. Regarding his visit to the devastated Ninth Ward, the Boss said, “I saw sights I never thought I’d see in an American city,” and added: “The criminal ineptitude makes you furious.” He dedicated one song to “President Bystander,” leaving one to wonder if Governor Bystander and Mayor Bystander are perhaps disappointed at being passed over.
