Count me out on this now being entirely a “vibes election.” Yes, personality and performance matter hugely in presidential politics, and all things being equal, it is better to seem contemporary and with-it than not. But the state of the country and issues matter, too. Trump still has substantial leads on the economy and border, and if we are entering a recession, being “brat” is unlikely to save Kamala. Could Trump lead on the issues that voters consider most important and still lose? Yes, absolutely. That’s why he should be focused on reminding people what they liked about his record as president rather than what they disliked about how he conducted himself as president. But we know how that’s been going lately.
