Verses from a Tyrant

I’m trying to nudge my cultural-conservative friends at The New Criterion into the age of online multimedia. After I suggested it, they sipped thoughtfully at their mulled port for a while, had a murmured conversation among themselves in Attic Greek, brushed the snuff from their surtouts, and agreed to give it a try.

So in the online version of this month’s TNC, my review of Willis Barnstone’s translation of Mao Tse-tung’s poems comes with a link (at the bottom) to me actually reading one of the poems.

If that doesn’t get you signing up for a New Criterion subscription, nothing will.
