The Corner

V

I spent last night with Mr. About Last Night himself, Terry Teachout, at the Brooklyn Academy of Music watching a performance of Mark Morris’s company (a first for me). The most interesting piece was “V,” dedicated to the City of New York, premiered in London October 16, 2001, to Schumann’s piano quintet in E flat. It’s a plotless dance, tactful and quiet; the scenes of greeting in the final movement were deeply moving.
