Two Excellent Bills from J. D. Vance

Last week, I wrote about “the tragedy of J. D. Vance:” the combination of the senator’s intellect, savvy, and appealing life story coupled with his embrace of the worst aspects of Trumpism. Today, at least, Vance is embodying the former.

He’ll soon be introducing two excellent pieces of legislation. The first is the “Protect Children’s Innocence Act,” which would place a federal ban on providing gender-reassignment surgery to minors. The Second is the “No Obamacare for Illegal Aliens Act,” which would reverse a Biden plan to expand the availability of Obamacare plans to illegal immigrants in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

Of course, neither of these bills will become law under a Democratic Senate and White House. But Vance deserves credit for doing the work he was elected to do as opposed to stumping for Donald Trump on Twitter.
