TV vs. Social Media

Politics is supposedly riven by Establishment–populist divides. I sometimes wonder if the division is really about the decline of television and the rise of social media.

It often seems that one moral party in our politics is saying, “I still believe what the important people on television have to say.” And the opposition party says, “I believe that my mutual follows on social media and alternative podcasts are mostly right.”

Since 2016, the panic about disinformation has really been about repairing the authority of TV culturists, or at least reasserting it above that of social media.

Humpty Dumpty won’t be so easily put back together again, I think.
