The Corner

Translating Frank Rich

A reader gives it a try:

“During that unpopular war, disaffected Americans took to the streets and

sometimes broke laws in an angry assault on American governmental

institutions.”

What he meant to write:

“A bunch of spoiled children, destined never to grow up, threw a huge tantrum

over the fact that they didn’t have everything they want in life, then spent

the rest of their pathetic lives pretending that they were actually valuable

to society. And now they want to be wealthy in their retirement and expect

the government to force younger taxpayers to pony up the cash for the life of

luxury to which they feel entitled by right of birth.”
