Trump advisers have a theory for who’s letting the campaign down: It’s the candidate.
Axios reports that they’re saying he lost the debate because of deep-seated personality traits. They say he “falls for fake news,” listens too much to sycophants, and is too old to change.
What they’re saying to reporters is very plausible. That they’re saying it is pretty dishonorable.
P.S. Some Trump supporters have theorized that many disappointments from his first term happened because he had too many disloyal aides, but now he knows how to weed them out. Stories like this one don’t bolster that theory.
