The Prime Directive: Never Say Anything Encouraging about Stay-at-Home Mothers

I wrote a column about the Harrison Butker controversy. The feminists have won in a rout the debate over how to think about women and their careers, but still can’t stand that anyone might stand up for the women who choose to stay at home with their kids (a lot of women mix and match, especially when their kids are younger). So here we have Butker, who, sure, didn’t speak with the subtlety of Josef Pieper, but said that he “guessed” the majority of the women in his traditionalist Catholic audience were most excited about the prospect of getting married and having kids (an entirely reasonable guess); said that being a homemaker is “one of the most important titles of all” (not the only title); and broke down while speaking of his own wife. And we are supposed to believe he’s some kind of monster.
