The AAUP Sells Out to Pro-Hamas Radicals

The American Association of University Professors (AAUP) used to be a worthwhile professional organization, but like ever so many professional organizations, it has been infiltrated by people who want to use it for their ideological purposes. (Think ACLU, American Bar Association, American Medical Association and others in this regard.) The AAUP recently besmirched itself by embracing the concept of academic boycotts, as long as they are aimed at a leftists’ villain such as Israel.

That stance has elicited considerable pushback, as we read here.

One opponent is chemistry professor Anna Krylov. From the article: “Chemistry Professor Anna Krylov, University of Southern California’s associate chair in natural sciences, wrote on her Substack that the American Association of University Professors was ‘once a venerable organization,’ but it ‘has been steadily moving towards a radical agenda, abandoning its noble mission of advancing academic freedom.’”

This reminds me of the many labor unions that now put the interests of their members far behind the desire of their leaders to get involved in political causes. However, it is much easier for professors to resign from the AAUP than for union members to sever their ties to a union.  Let us hope to see mass resignations from the AAUP until its leadership reverses course.
