You point out in your kind remarks on my column that 1960 isn’t a good benchmark for a successful run for the presidency from the Senate because JFK was running against a vice-president — the other lousy perch from which to seek the presidency aside from the Senate. Of course Nixon was also a former senator! So he was a double lousy threat. Kind of like…Al Gore!
