Target’s Pride Merch Looks . . . Different This Year

Remember last year’s Target fiasco — you know, when the store lost billions for selling “tuck-friendly” swimsuits and merchandise designed by a satanist brand in the month of June? Target scaled back its pride offerings this year, James reported, and while I don’t ordinarily care what Target decides to stock, some of these products are hilarious.

Most of Target’s 75-item “pride” collection consists of animal toys, like this “pride squirrel plush toy,” or this “pride butterfly kicker cat toy.” The best items by far are Target’s “featherly friends,” weird little fabric birds, one dressed in colorful beachwear (which is bound to add “pizzazz” to your decor) and one dressed in vintage Hollywood garb (designed to resemble Tippi Hedren in The Birds). There’s also a fabric beach cabana.

Both featherly friends are sold out online. If you see one of these $5 plushies in the store, snag one while the going is good. Target sold a similar drag-queen plushie bird last year that is now selling for $189.99 on eBay! There’s even a Tumblr blog for featherly friends fans.

Rejoice, Target boycotters of 2023 — as far as I can tell, the birds are tuck-unfriendly.
