Cheney and Rumsfeld are always convenient scapegoats. But given the humongous number of transactions between U.S. personnel and terror suspects since 9/11, the number of publicized questionable incidents is remarkably low. I went through Ranger training at Ft. Benning in 1980 and commanded a Basic Training unit at Fort Sill in 1987. I can guarantee you that what I endured at Benning and what I oversaw at Sill is worse than what’s in store for terror suspects, under the new protocol. McCain is the problem here, not Cheney or Rummy. The Senator is a trigger-happy legislator. He believes the solution to EVERYTHING is legislation. Match that with a stratospheric ego and you have a recipe for unintended consequences. The irony is that if (when) we’re attacked again, it will never be traced to McCain’s current actions. In fact, the Senator will probably be in front of the cameras, decrying another “failure to connect the dots”. In my view, the man is dangerous.
