Stevens: Hillary Clinton Will Lose the 2016 Democratic Primary

Former Romney-campaign strategist Stuart Stevens predicts that Hillary Clinton will lose the Democratic presidential primary in 2016, arguing that the former secretary of state has significant political vulnerabilities.

“Where to begin? I mean, she’s been around since the 70s. She’s pro-war. It took Rob Portman to get her to come out for gay marriage,” Stevens said at a breakfast hosted by National Review’s Washington bureau. “If I were a Democratic hot-shot politician, I’d primary her so fast.”

Stevens noted that Obama’s campaign, not the Democratic National Convention, controls much of the infrastructure and personnel that made his reelection effort successful, and that those operatives may not help Clinton. “You think they have a great and abiding affection for Hillary Clinton?” he asked.

“You know, [Clinton] could potentially be running against a Republican who’s 30 years younger,” he said. “It’s very rare you go back a generation.”
