Spitzer Loses Big Lead in Comptroller’s Race, Now Tied

The race for the Democratic nomination for New York City comptroller has gotten a lot closer over the last two weeks.

According to a new Quinnipiac poll, disgraced former New York governor Eliot Spitzer is in a dead heat with Manhattan borough president Scott Stringer, 46 percent to 46 percent.

Spitzer held a 19-point lead over his rival in a poll Quinnipiac released August 14 (the newest poll was conducted from August 22–27). That’s completely evaporated, and the race is now closer than what it was in late July, when Spitzer held a four-point lead at 49 percent.
